Self-Analysis of My Fiction
Sometimes I get on a health kick. I’ll eat healthy foods, take more walks, and go to the gym regularly. When these health kicks last for a few months, I lose weight, sleep better, my mood is improved, and generally in all around better health. The change does not happen on the second day of my health kick, or the third, fourth, fifth. It takes a couple of months before I notice a major change. But it does happen. One day I look in the mirror and say, “dang looking good”. Most people have had this experience.

In the Darkness of Night. Top Story - September 2021.
My father fought in World War II. He was seriously injured during a major battle in the South Pacific. A grenade landed in his foxhole killing his best friend and filling him with shrapnel. He very rarely spoke of his wartime experience, but in the evenings, when we would be sitting quietly you could feel the burden was still with him. During the night he would often have the same nightmare, you could hear him fighting that battle, always waking up with the grenade landing in the foxhole. Growing up I heard that nightmare hundreds of times.
