A single splinter of brilliant light

Darts through the empty keyhole,

Shining with hope that the flood will come

To ease the drought in my soul.

The key to my fate lies within, I know,

But I've lost it, somehow, in the status quo.

This is really really good. Poignant. 😍 The flood metaphor was completely unexpected. And i adore how “key” came in to complete the set up of “keyhole.”
